I just recently happen to know that it’s depend upon a person how he/she is using the word 哥哥 (Brother) in a sentence. Chinese Language is quite complicated. According to them, if a lover call you 哥哥 it will consider as “Darling, Baby or Handsome” but if an actual sister calling you 哥哥, it means brother.
Usually for little brother, word 弟弟 (di di) is used. And for Big Brother they use 大哥 (da ge).
Quite complicated. Isn’t it? I know but that’s how it is.

I'm sure he knew, especially after showing the map with a destination to the island that everyone warns against and the captain didn't question it at all.
